BIOGRAPHY
He was born in Oarai-machi Ibaraki in 1981. He started his first sport, swimming, when he was three and aiming to compete at national level in Junior and youth categories. Triathlon was introduced when he was a junior in high school, aged 16, and immediately he was into the sport. Finished 27th at his first-ever ITU World Championships in Edmonton in 2001 - Junior Men.
After his 5 year+ triathlon career with Team TEIKEI, he became a self-coached athlete and working for Ryutsu Keizai University.
Hirokatsu is a nine time National Champion and won Asian Cup title four times. He is the first athlete to bring World Cup gold medal to Japan in 2007.
His victory at 2016 Hatsukaichi ASTC Triathlon Asian Championships brought him the ticket to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. He is the first Japanese triathlete who is going to compete in four consecutive Summer Olympic Games. "It will be my last Olympic challenge. I will give my best shot and finish in Top 8 in Rio."Hirokatsu said.
