The Japan Triathlon Union (JTU) has started a project to support the development of triathlon in the Republic of Rwanda through donation of triathlon goods collected from triathletes in Japan.
In 2018, JTU dispatched ITU Level II coach to Rwanda with the support from the Japanese Olympic Committee and the IOC Olympic Solidarity Program for dispatching coaches overseas. According to the report, Rwanda, a country where triathlon was first introduced in 2012, is in need of triathlon materials in addition to the necessity of improving their training environment and methods. In order to contribute to the development of triathlon in a country where history of the sport is short, donating materials to the regional clubs affiliated to the national federation is one way of nurturing potential triathletes.
Based on such circumstances, JTU started a campaign to donate triathlon goods such as tri-suits, running/bike shoes, swim caps, stopwatch, etc. to Rwanda. The goods for donation, both new and used, will be collected at the Osaka Castle Asian Cup (September 21-22) and Miyazaki World Cup/Japan Age Group Championships (October 26-27) by JTU. Donation of goods is also accepted at the JTU Office by post or delivery service until the end of October.
